Muhammad Khalid Saifullah Md. Admin, who is only 23 years old, has made a successful job after his vocational college diploma. Instead of working a regular desk job, he now runs a self-sufficient farming and livestock business that brings him RM 12,000 a month without any loans.

Malaysian young farmer turns 1.21 hectares into a thriving agri-business

In 2019, 18 years old Khalid decided to take his first step into farming and livestock after his study in Kampung Gajh, Sungkai. He raises his livestock on a 1.21-hectare area of land next to his family’s house. There, he raised chickens, ducks, cows, and goats in addition to growing crops including lemongrass, bananas, chilies, durian, and mangosteens. The fresh foods are provided to Tanjung Malim as it supports his household and farm operations.

Helps local farmers and Orang Asli families

Khalid helped the local community and Orang Asli residents by becoming a regular buyer of their agricultural products, such as durian, petai, and mangosteens. By doing this, he not only sustains their income but also creates lasting relationships based on respect for each others and development.

Khalid also hires the Orang Asli, providing them with employment opportunities and practical farming equipped with livestock expertise. After learning the skills from working with Khalid, several of them have even managed to launch their own farming business to increase their household income and quality of life.

Builds a sustainable farming business from the ground up

Without applying for any loans to finance his business, Khalid managed to grow his farming and livestock operations entirely through self-funding. He reinvests his profits into things like animal feed, utilities, and maintenance. He recycles leftover vegetables as animals feed and animal waste as compost to further reduce expenses, making his concept both economical and environmentally friendly.

Aims of his own slaughterhouse

Khalid continues to get assistance from government organizations to grow his business, with the goal of eventually running his own authorized slaughterhouse. He has received continuous support from the Perak Agriculture Department and the Department of Veterinary Services in areas like product sales, marketing, and consulting services, ensuring that the continuity of his business.

Success reflects vision of Perak Sejahtera 2030

Khalid’s accomplishment aligns with Perak’s Sejahtera 2030 strategy, which encourages young people to get involved in food security and agriculture projects like “Lembu Bakul Makanan Malaysia” program. His story demonstrates how youth can benefit local communities and agri-economies.
