Tan Cheong Min has carved her name into the history books by becoming Malaysia’s first-ever wushu gold medallist at the World Games, held today (Aug 9) in Chengdu, China.

Cheong Min delivered a powerful performance in the nandao (broadsword) event, scoring an impressive 9.733 points to top the field at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre Gymnasium.
This comes right after her stellar showing on Friday in the nanquan event, where she led with 9.746 points.
Cheong Min wins 1st gold at the World Games
Her consistent performances across both events secured her the gold medal in the nandao and nanquan all-round category, with a combined score of 19.479 points, just ahead of Uzbekistan’s Darya Latisheva (19.433) and Singapore’s Kassandra Ong (19.386).

With this win, Cheong Min becomes only the fourth Malaysian athlete in history to strike gold at the World Games. This marks a major milestone not just in Cheong Min’s wushu career, but also for Malaysia on the world stage.
