“I forgive the bus driver. What happened was destined. There’s no anger or resentment.”
These were the heartfelt words of Halim Sidik, 58, father of the late Muhammad Adib Hazim, a 21-year-old UPSI student who tragically lost his life in a recent bus accident along the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, Perak.

Adib, the sixth of seven siblings, was remembered as a kind son. Speaking from their home in Kampung Pangkalan Cina, Halim shared that his family has come to terms with the loss and holds no ill thoughts or intentions toward the driver.
“Allah loved Adib more. We’ve accepted what happened. Even though there are many things being said about the bus driver, we hold no grudge. He has a family too. I believe he didn’t mean to drive fast or recklessly. As for seeking forgiveness, that’s between him and God,” Halim said, holding back tears.
Halim also shared that he still keeps a photo of Adib on his phone, a cherished memory and source of comfort during this difficult time.

Earlier, Mohd Amirul Fadhil Zulkifle, 39, the bus driver involved, who is currently receiving treatment at Taiping Hospital, publicly apologised to the families of the victims. He explained that the bus likely suffered from brake failure before the accident occurred.
Reports also mentioned that the driver had stopped earlier to check the brakes, but the situation escalated when the bus lost control and collided with a Perodua Alza, leading to a devastating crash.
The incident, which happened on Monday, claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students and injured 33 others, including the bus driver and co-driver, as well as the driver and three passengers of the Alza.
Police investigations are still ongoing, including blood tests and official statements from the drivers involved.
Despite the tragedy, Halim’s strength and ability to forgive have touched many, reminding us all that even in the face of deep sorrow, compassion and humanity can still prevail.
