According to Sin Chew News, A 75-year-old Chinese shop owner named Mr Heng Fock Suan, 75, found RM980 outside his store. Without any hesitation, the man chose to return it, gaining admiration for his honesty and compassion.

The money, made up of RM1, RM10, and RM50 notes, had slipped from the pocket of Wan Shahrul, a Malay food vendor operating his shop nearby. Mr Heng checked his CCTV footage and immediately recognised the familiar face of the man who often served him at a stall near the bus stop.

“I often buy food from him, so I knew it was him. I contacted him and returned the money personally,” Mr Heng shared.

“It turns out the owner of the money is a food stall operator at the bus station. I actually know him, I often visit his stall. So I contacted him right away and returned the money,” he added.

Wan Shahrul recounted the moment he noticed the loss. “I only realised it when I got to my car. I went back to search several times, even checked inside my car, but the money was gone. It was heartbreaking, but I thought I had no choice but to accept it.”

A few days later, Mr Heng visited Wan Shahrul and showed him the CCTV footage, confirming that the money was his.

“I was deeply touched,” Wan Shahrul said. “I am so grateful for his honesty and kindness. We live in a multiracial society where mutual trust and understanding are so important. This reminded me that honesty does not depend on race.”

In moments where trust can feel rare, this simple act of goodness reminds us that compassion and unity still live deeply in our communities.
