She sells prawn and chicken rolls so her son can stay in university

In Puchong, Malaysia, a single mother has taken on the challenge of raising RM2,000 in semester fees by selling prawn rolls and chicken rolls, instead of relying solely on donations.

Her son, a student at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), has recently achieved a perfect CGPA of 4.0. However, the family is struggling financially, and they are currently unable to pay his semester fees.

Sought help from Uncle Kentang, a crowdfunded charitable organization

Rather than asking for handouts, the mother approached the organizers of the Orange Project, a community project aimed at helping cancer patients and those in need. Chee Heng Kuan, or fondly known as Uncle Kentang, mentioned in his Facebook post that they could straight away donate the RM2,000 needed for her son’s tuition fees, but she insisted on earning the money herself by participating in their fundraising program.

“We can give her the RM2,000 but she told me she wanted to earn it herself and prove that she can still help her own son to finish college,” said Chee.

Starting this week, she will be personally selling halal-certified prawn and chicken rolls at the Orange Project’s office at 33, Jalan Puchong Utama, Puchong. The rolls cost RM12 per box or RM20 for two boxes, and 100% of the profits will go towards her son’s education fund.

Customers and kind-hearted individuals are encouraged to visit the Orange Project office to purchase the rolls or make financial donations, which will be recorded transparently in a donation book. The organization will also cover a token amount for her transportation and sales expenses, ensuring she is able to continue her mission.

Those who are unable to visit in person can still support her by placing orders through the Orange Project.

“Help her to get her RM 2,000 for her son studies,” Chee added.

Food tastes better with a good cause

Not only have many Malaysians stepped up to support her, but other online users who purchased the prawn and chicken rolls before also praised the taste.

“Everyone should try the mini popiah prawn rolls. I’ve bought twice already, because it’s delicious and more importantly, for a good cause. The rolls are so crunchy and not the least bit oily. Try try try…….some delicious titbits and help someone in need too.”
