IPOH May 14 – In the stillness of the early morning, a sorrowful farewell was held for nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) who lost their lives in a tragic accident in Teluk Intan. The final honours took place at the FRU Unit 5 base in Sungai Senam at 3.46 am following the ceremonial traditions of the Royal Malaysia Police.

Their caskets, gently wrapped in the national flag, arrived at 3.13 am from the Hilir Perak district police headquarters. They were accompanied by full police honours, a final tribute to their service and sacrifice.
For the seven Muslim personnel, funeral prayers were offered under the guidance of Ustaz Azrul Zaimi Muhammad Ali at Surau Al Mustakim. Earlier that night, all nine bodies were released from the Forensic Department of Teluk Intan Hospital at 12.33 am after the completion of the post mortem procedures. The remains of the Muslim personnel were taken to the surau at the Hilir Perak police headquarters for prayer rites before the final ceremony.
More than five hundred people including grieving family members and fellow police officers gathered in silence to witness the farewell. The weight of the loss was felt deeply as the community stood in mourning. Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin were also present to pay their respects.

Once family members had offered their final goodbyes filled with tears and heartache the caskets were taken to their hometowns where the fallen FRU heroes would be laid to rest.
The heartbreaking incident occurred at 8.50 am on Tuesday when a lorry carrying gravel rammed into the vehicle transporting the FRU team. They were returning to Ipoh after completing a duty in Teluk Intan. Eight FRU officers died at the scene while one more passed away while receiving treatment at Teluk Intan Hospital.
The country mourns the loss of these brave FRU personnel. Their dedication and sacrifice will always be remembered.
