The suspect was brought to the Kluang Magistrate’s Court at around 8.50am this morning under police escort to apply for the remand order. He was seen wearing the same brown shirt as earlier proceedings and repeatedly covered his face while in court.

He was represented by three lawyers, Chen Jia Jian (transliteration), Daniel and Harikadi.

The case has drawn nationwide attention. Initial police investigations suggest that two brothers, driving a BMW and a Mercedes respectively, were allegedly street racing along the Simpang Renggam–Kluang road when the crash occurred. The crash claimed the lives of the BMW driver’s 22-year-old brother and a family of four.

Probe now under murder after fatal crash claims five lives.

The 19-year-old suspect, who was driving the Mercedes, was first arrested for dangerous driving and held for three days before being released on bail. He was later rearrested and is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
