Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidil Bolhassan confirmed that a 26-year-old woman was arrested on Dec 16 after authorities received three police reports related to the alleged abuse of babies aged between six and nine months.

Investigations to date indicate that she is the only individual suspected to be involved in the case. The matter is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act, which covers offenses involving child abuse. Upon conviction, the offense carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both.

Alleged infant abuse captured on CCTV

The case gained attention after CCTV footage surfaced online, allegedly showing an infant being physically mishandled at the nursery. The video was shared by a parent, who said she was distressed after seeing her six-month-old child being thrown, rolled, and slapped by a caregiver.

“That baby is my child, only six months old. I waited four years and endured four miscarriages to have him,” she said.

The footage prompted parents to come forward and lodge reports, leading to police action and the subsequent arrest.

Case still under review

Police stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have urged the public to allow due process to take place as the probe continues.
