Three masked burglars who allegedly broke into a house in Muar and stole valuables worth about RM7,000 have been arrested after their actions were captured on CCTV.
Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police discovered footage of the incident circulating online before verifying the report and launching an investigation.
Burglars entered house through kitchen window
According to police, the incident happened at a house in Bakri after the owners locked up their home and travelled to Kuala Lumpur on July 17.
The homeowner only realised something was wrong the following day after receiving an alert from the home security system. Upon checking the footage, the owner found that the backyard CCTV camera had been switched off.
The recording showed that at around 10.14pm, three men wearing masks and gloves entered the house through a kitchen window. The suspects reportedly spent about 10 minutes inside the house, searching two rooms before escaping with cash and valuables.
Items stolen included several branded watches and a gold necklace, with total losses estimated at around RM7,000.
Police trace suspects through investigation
Raiz said the Muar Criminal Investigation Department’s operations team was deployed to track down and arrest all suspects involved.
“Police are still conducting further investigations to determine the identities of the suspects and their motive,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking and theft. Those convicted under the section may face up to five years’ imprisonment, while cases involving theft can carry a longer sentence of up to 14 years.
Police urge public to strengthen home security
Police are appealing to anyone with information or those who can identify the individuals seen in the CCTV footage to contact investigating officer Nor Afika at 017-664 6416 or the nearest police station.
Authorities also reminded the public to ensure doors and windows are properly locked, maintain functioning security systems, and inform neighbours or relevant authorities when leaving their homes for extended periods.
According to posts circulating online, the incident reportedly took place in the Taman Pertama Indah area.
