With the support of her family, Penang General Hospital successfully carried out a multi-organ retrieval procedure from the late Dai Wanting, allowing her decision to become an organ donor to potentially give hope to patients in need.

Her final wish was honoured by her husband

The Penang State Health Department said Dai had registered as an organ donor while she was still alive.

Following her sudden death, her husband fully respected and supported her decision, allowing her final wish to be carried out.

“Her noble decision made during her lifetime has now become a priceless gift of life to others who are urgently in need of help,” the department said.

In a poignant coincidence, Dai passed away on August 13, which was World Organ Donation Day.

The Penang State Health Department said this was also the second multi-organ retrieval procedure carried out at Penang General Hospital this year.

The procedure involved medical and support teams from several departments, including ophthalmology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopaedics, forensic medicine, pathology, transportation, organ retrieval, as well as the National Transplant Resource Centre.

Penang General Hospital was also lit up in green as a tribute to organ donors and their families.

Healthcare workers also wore green in conjunction with World Organ Donation Day and the 2026 Organ Donation Awareness Week, hoping to raise public awareness about the importance of organ donation.

The department said Dai’s story serves as a reminder that a decision made today could one day become someone else’s most meaningful hope for tomorrow.

Those who wish to register as an organ donor can do so through the MySejahtera app.
