A 75-year-old man who had left home alone on his motorcycle and lost contact with his family was finally reunited with his loved ones after several strangers stepped in to help him get home.
Lee Yue Hua (transliterate) had gone out on his motorcycle on September 8, with his family believing he was heading to the area behind Sri Parit to check on his oil palm plantation.
But by around 3pm, they realised they could no longer reach him. His family immediately began searching and shared a missing-person notice online, worried that the elderly man might have gotten lost or encountered trouble along the way.
The situation became even more worrying when a resident later found Lee’s phone near a petrol station in Taman Jaya. His phone had been found, but there was still no sign of Lee or his motorcycle.
Two deliverymen decide not to leave him stranded
Lee had actually travelled much further than his family expected, eventually making his way towards Seremban 2. At some point, he appeared to have lost his way and was unable to find his way back home.
That was when two Indian men working as Lalamove delivery drivers came across him. Instead of simply passing by, the two men decided to help and gave Lee a ride back towards Lukut in their lorry. They eventually brought him to a restaurant in Lukut.
A restaurant full of strangers helped complete the journey
The story took another turn when people at the restaurant recognised Lee from the missing-person notice that had been circulating online. They immediately contacted his family to let them know that he had been found.
Lee’s family rushed to the restaurant and finally brought him home at around 11pm. Thankfully, he was safe and unharmed after the ordeal.
His daughter Lee Shun Ping (transliterate) later thanked everyone who had helped look for her father, particularly the two Lalamove deliverymen who gave him a ride, as well as the people at the restaurant who recognised him and alerted the family. The family also expressed their gratitude to everyone who helped spread the missing-person notice and kept an eye out for Lee.
What could have ended very differently instead became a reminder that sometimes getting someone safely home takes a whole chain of small acts of kindness, from strangers who stop to help, to people who recognise a face and make that one important phone call.
