The government has refunded RM14.7 billion in overpaid taxes to more than 3.17 million taxpayers as of June 30, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

In a written reply in Parliament, Anwar said RM5.75 billion was returned to about 3.10 million individual taxpayers, while another RM8.95 billion was refunded to 76,511 companies. Of the companies that received refunds, 23,356 were micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Priority given to SMEs and firms facing cash flow issues
Anwar said the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has introduced several measures to make the tax refund process fairer and more efficient.
He said the government is ensuring that refund allocations are distributed in an orderly and effective manner, with pending cases generally processed based on how long they have been waiting.
However, micro, small and medium enterprises, as well as companies facing cash flow problems, are given priority regardless of how long their cases have been pending.

Govt working to clear remaining refund cases
Anwar added that some refund applications are still under review as LHDN verifies additional information and supporting documents submitted by taxpayers.
He said the government remains committed to clearing all outstanding tax refund cases as quickly as possible while ensuring the rights of all taxpayers are protected.
According to the prime minister, the improvements reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen tax administration and safeguard taxpayers’ interests in line with the MADANI government’s fiscal reform agenda.
