Businessman Nicky Liow Liao Shun has denied claims that he is a member of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), saying he has never joined or even applied to become a party member.
Speaking at a press conference today (July 29), Liow said the controversy arose after photos of him wearing an Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) shirt alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim circulated online.
‘I bought it at a charity sale’
Liow explained that he purchased the shirt at a charity fundraising booth during a public event, and said wearing it should not be taken as proof of his political affiliation. He also said taking photos with politicians at public events was normal and should not automatically lead to assumptions that someone had received special treatment.
“I have never announced that I joined any political party, nor have I ever applied to become a PKR member,” he said.
Liow also urged those making claims about his alleged political links or special treatment to provide evidence instead of relying on speculation based on a photograph.
‘Facts must come before politics’
Responding to questions raised by Batu Pahat MP Lee Chean Chung, Liow said allegations should be supported by facts and evidence.
“If anyone believes I joined a political party, please produce the evidence. If anyone believes I received special treatment, please provide the facts,” he said.
Liow stressed that he remains an entrepreneur involved in the real estate, construction and food industries, and does not hold any political position or have political ambitions. He also said his previous legal matters had been dealt with through the proper legal process, adding that his legal team had made official court documents available to the media to prevent further misrepresentation.
Liow called on the public to avoid drawing conclusions based solely on photographs, saying that facts and evidence should come before political speculation.
