Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) last night for observation, according to his son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.
The 101-year-old former prime minister was admitted a day after his wife, the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, passed away at IJN at the age of 100.
His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, said the 101-year-old has been feeling fatigued and has not been getting enough rest following the death of his wife, the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, on Monday.
Sufi said Mahathir’s exhaustion was linked to the emotional strain of losing his wife, combined with the hot weather and lack of rest. He said the combination had taken a toll on the former prime minister, who is 101 years old.
Grieving wife of nearly 70 years
His daughter, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, had earlier said her father was in good health but was feeling lonely after losing his wife. She said Mahathir was still grieving Siti Hasmah’s passing, who had been his companion for most of his life.
The couple had been married since 1956 and had seven children.
