The mother, who is Orang Asli, reportedly missed the closure announcement in the parents’ group chat and went ahead with their usual morning routine. After dropping her child off at the school gate, she drove away before school staff could stop her.

With the student already inside the school compound, the school had to contact the mother through the teachers to inform her that classes had been suspended for the day. She eventually returned to the school to pick up her child, bringing the unexpected morning school trip to an end.

School switches to home-based learning

Although schools under the Education Ministry across Negeri Sembilan were closed because of worsening haze, principals were still required to report to school for their usual duties, while teachers and students were to carry out their work and learning from home.

Chi Wen Primary School principal Lee Kai (transliterated) i said the school had already established a group through a mobile application to communicate with parents and coordinate students’ learning arrangements.

This allowed teachers to continue assigning learning activities remotely, while parents could receive updates on what their children needed to do during the closure.

With the arrangements already in place, Lee said home-based learning was expected to continue without placing too much additional pressure on families or significantly disrupting students’ progress.
