A 29-year-old Singaporean woman was arrested at the Second Link Expressway intersection in Gelang Patah, Johor, for obstructing police duties and verbally abusing officers.
Iskandar Puteri’s police chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police M. Kumarasan, said in a Sept 28 statement that the 29-year-old suspect’s car was stopped at a roadblock along the 3.8km mark of the highway in Gelang Patah at 8.30pm on Sept 27. Dissatisfied with the summons issued, the woman hurled offensive and insulting remarks at the officers.
“During the inspection, the suspect refused to cooperate and verbally abused the officers after being informed that a Pol 257 summons would be issued for her vehicle’s illegal exhaust modification,” ACP Kumarasan said.
He explained that the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the course of duty, an offence carrying a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both if convicted.
“She is also being probed under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using insulting words likely to cause offence or disturb the peace, which is punishable with a fine of up to RM100,” he added.
Suspect did not possess valid travel documents to be in Malaysia
The police statement also mentioned that she is being investigated under Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/62 for failing to possess valid documents to stay in Malaysia, an offence punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, whipping of up to six strokes, or any combination of two of these penalties.
Behaviour was not fuelled by alcohol or drugs
She was immediately arrested, and subsequent urine and alcohol tests came back negative. Nonetheless, the summons for the illegal exhaust was still issued.
The woman now faces three separate charges – obstructing law enforcement officers, using obscene language, and lacking valid documents to be in Malaysia. These fall under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The Second Link serves as both a bridge and expressway linking Tuas in Singapore with Gelang Patah in Johor, Malaysia.
