The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a stem reminder urging the public to refrain from sharing or uploading any photos or videos related to the recent fatal school stabbing incident in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.

Public urged to act responsibly online
In an official statement, MCMC expressed its deepest condolences to the family of 16-year-old victim, who was tragically killed by a 14-year-old junior. The commission called Malaysians to act responsibility and avoid circulating images of the victim, other students, or the crime scene.
“Those who have already uploaded such content are urged to delete it immediately,” the statement mentioned.
MCMC stressed that sharing these materials not only violates the privacy and dignity of the victim’s family but also risks hindering ongoing police investigations.

Legal consequences for spreading sensitive content
The commission further reminded the public that the legal action can be taken against individuals found distributing sensitive or inappropriate material online. Offenders may be charged under the Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which prohibits the improper use of network facilities.
The advisory comes amid growing concern over the viral spread of photos and videos linked to Bandar Utama school tragedy, which has deeply shocked Malaysia across the nation.

Menta health history & ongoing police investigation
According to Sin Chew Daily, the school has confirmed to police that the suspect had previously undergone the regular counselling sessions and psychological monitoring. Both the school counsellor and professional therapists had been involved in his mental health care.
Following the incident, the police have contacted the treatment institution overseeing the suspect’s case to determine his current mental state.

The incident occurred at 9.10a.m. on Oct 14 at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, where the suspect alleged entered a female restroom armed with a sharp object and fatally attacked a 16-year-old senior student. After the attack, the suspect was seen wandering the campus shouting that he had committed the act, before being subdued by teachers and his brother.
Police confirmed that the suspect was brought to the Petaling Jaya Court at 9a.m. today to obtain a remand extension and has since been returned to the district police headquarters for further questioning.
Victim’s body released after autopsy
Petaling Jaya police chief Asst Comm Shamsuddin confirmed that an autopsy on the victim was completed last night, and her body was claimed by her family early this morning around 7.30a.m. from the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) mortuary.
According to China Press, security personnel at the hospital confirmed that the remains had been collected when the media arrived.
