Malaysia has achieved a new milestone with its space exploration journey after the successful launch of the first Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite, TerraX-1 (AIRSAT-03).

A local aerospace firm, TerraXpace Sdn Bhd announced that the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satelite was launched at 11.33a.m. (Malaysian time) on 19 October from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in China, aboard a Kinetica-1 rocket.
The company emphasizes that the development and launch of TerraX-1 represents a major step forward in Malaysia’s satellite technology and Earth observation advancement.
“This achievement demonstrates Malaysia’s readiness to progress further in the fields of space exploration and remote sensing technology,” TerraXpace stated.

Expanding capabilities in Earth observation
Equipped with advanced SAR imaging technology, TerraX-1 can capture high-resolution imagery in all weather and lightning conditions, ensuring the continuous and accurate monitoring of the Earth’s surface.
The data obtained a wide range of applications, including:

- Environmental protection
- Coastal monitoring
- Infrastructure development
TerraXpace noted that the advancement would enhance the Malaysia’s data-driven governance and contribute to sustainable national development, strengthening its competitiveness in regional space sector.
