A vision for Kuala Lumpur’s golden triangle

According to Nga, the initiative will be carried out in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), which forms part of the “I Lite U” project, a large-scale effort to enhance the district’s vibrancy, colour, and liveliness in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

The government has allocated RM4 million to enhance city lighting and strengthen Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife, with RM2 million set aside for beautification and sustainability efforts.

“My goal is to elevate Bukit Bintang’s Golden Triangle to a level comparable with Tokyo’s Ginza and Singapore’s Orchard Road,” Nga stated.

Four key components under “I Lite U”

The project will focus on four major development components. Among them is artistic street lighting that reflects Malaysia’s rich cultural identity and the installation of a Visit Malaysia Year 2026 sculpture as a new landmark.

Further details regarding the remaining enhancements will be announced in the coming months. Nga emphasized that these upgrades aim to elevate Bukit Bintang into a world-class destination that balances cultural expression, tourism, and modern urban aesthetics.

Disney-style parade to launch in January 2026

The highlight of the initiative will be the official launch of the “I Lite U” project by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 3 January 2026. The ceremony will feature a Disney-style parade, promising a spectacular celebration to mark the beginning of Bukit Bintang’s new era.

Road closures will be implemented during the event to accommodate the large-scale parade, and the public is encouraged to use public transportation to avoid traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said the initiative also aims to improve night-time safety and stimulate the local night economy, positioning Kuala Lumpur alongside major cities like Tokyo and Dubai.

“Visitors will experience a livelier and safer atmosphere, while businesses benefit from a well-planned night-time economy. The public will witness a city that reflects Malaysia’s dignity and unique identity,” he added.
