Malaysia has banned the sale and distribution of the popular Thai inhaler “Hong Thai Formula 2” following an urgent recall by Thai authorities over microbial contamination.

In a statement this afternoon, the Health Ministry said the product is not registered with Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), reports Malay Mail.

“The sale and possession of unregistered medicines constitute an offence under the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations,” the ministry said.

The action comes after Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered a recall of the inhaler when it failed health quality tests.

The ministry added that “Hong Thai Formula 2” has been actively promoted and sold on various e-commerce platforms.

“We have filed complaints with the respective platforms, requesting the immediate removal of these product listings,” it said.

Public urged to stop using Hong Thai inhalers immediately

The public has also been urged not to purchase the inhaler and to discontinue its use immediately if already obtained.
