According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), between five to seven episodes of continuous heavy rain are expected throughout the season. Director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said prolonged rainfall may result in flooding, particularly in low-lying and riverine areas.

He added that strong northeasterly wins could also trigger rough sea conditions and raise sea levels in parts of South China Sea, warning coastal communities to exercise caution.
