A post regarding a Malaysian top university’s policy against khalwat posted by a Chinese content creator has gone viral on XHS (Rednote).

The post has drawn a mix of reactions, with the majority criticising the university’s policy. Only a small handful of comments said that public displays of affection in the university campus made them feel uncomfortable, or that the policy did not affect them as they just focus on their studies.

The announcement states the prohibition of being in close proximity with persons of the opposite gender on campus grounds. It was originally posted on the social media page of one of the university’s student bodies.

The XHS content creator, whose IP address is tagged as Shaanxi, mainly focuses on sharing insights on studying in Malaysia. His content touches Malaysian university application, life in Malaysian universities, and career prospects for those who have studied abroad. He has covered on public as well as private universities in Malaysia.

At the time of writing, the post by the XHS creator had achieved over 2,000 likes and 300 comments.

Comments section flooded with remarks on the policy encouraging same-sex relationships

Several comments joked that the policy would encourage homosexuality on campus. The commenters had IP addresses from a mix of Malaysia, China, Australia and Canada (XHS has a feature that shows the user’s IP address.
