A Malaysian man has recently voiced his dissatisfaction on Facebook regarding a local bubble tea’s recent in-app marketing approach, citing the push notification as inappropriate and flirty.

The notification, written in a playful and conversation tone, appeared to suggest that the customer had been “unfaithful” for not purchasing from the brand for some time.
“Are you cheating? Haven’t seen you order Milk Tea in a while. We miss you!”
In his post, he argued that while the marketing team may have intended the message to be light-hearted, such language can be perceived as intrusive or disrespectful when delivered through an app.

He added that the wording felt less like friendly engagement and more like an attempt at flirty marketing, which he found insulting. Following the incident, he shared that he had left a one-star review on the app store before uninstalling the application.
Public reaction
The post quickly circulated online, prompting a wide range of responses, with many users sharing different thoughts and angles about the advertisement.
“Cheating with the tea cup. I also cannot take it, it feels a bit insulting.”

“I love this kind of marketing, like ZUS Coffee.”

“This just means their marketing is working and you noticed it… but later people will say you’re a dinosaur who cannot accept things like this in the Gen Z era.”
