Starting next year, the Selangor state government will offer free online foreign language classes to residents. The programme, first introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic and previously requiring a RM10 fee, is organized by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) in collaboration with language centres across the state.

Language as a tool for unity and competitiveness

The language classes will cover:

  • Arabic
  • Mandarin
  • Tamil
  • French
  • German
  • Spanish

“Mastering multiple languages strengthens Malaysia’s global competitiveness while promoting unity among its diverse population,” Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said.

He added that the initiative encourages residents to become proficient in at least three additional languages alongside Bahasa Malaysia and English.

Preparing youth for the future

Amirudin also highlighted the importance of equipping young people with skills in modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and other digital innovations. By combining language education with future-ready skill development, the state aims to nurture a multilingual, tech-savvy community prepared for a rapidly evolving world.
