The Malaysian government has confirmed that the school opening assistance programme will continue in 2026, with a one-off payment of RM150 to be provided to every eligible student nationwide regardless of family income level.

The Ministry of Education stated that the aid will be given to Malaysian citizen students from Year One up to Form Six. More than 5.2 million students are expected to benefit from the initiative, which is intended to help families manage education related expenses at the start of the new academic year.
Early-year distribution without income conditions
The ministry noted that no income threshold will be imposed on parents or guardians in determining eligibility. Distribution of the assistance is scheduled to begin as early 11 Jan 2026, ensuring that students receive support ahead of the school term.

Cash payments to be handed out through schools
“The assistance will be distributed in cash through schools during the teacher-parent engagement sessions,” the ministry added.
This method is aimed at improving the efficiency of fund distribution while also encouraging closer cooperation and communication between schools and families. The initiative was announced during the tabling of the Budget 2026, with a total allocation of RM800 million set aside to support students across the country.
