Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that toll charges across the country will be slashed by 50% in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, offering some relief for the expected surge in balik kampung traffic.

The discount kicks in from 12.01am on March 18 until 11.59pm on March 19, and will only apply to Class 1 private vehicles. The government is expected to fork out around RM21.03 million to compensate toll concessionaires for the move.
However, not all tolls are part of the festive discount. Here’s where the 50% cut won’t apply:
- Sultan Iskandar Building
- Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza
Beyond toll relief, Anwar also shared that the insolvency department will expedite bankruptcy discharges for 4,000 individuals, with priority given to single parents, just in time for the festive season.
These measures add to a growing list of Aidilfitri support initiatives, including an:
- Extra public holiday
- Early disbursement of the second phase of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR)
- Special cash aid for civil servants.
Still, the Prime Minister struck a careful note, reminding Malaysians to celebrate within their means. With global economic winds still unpredictable, he urged the public to stay mindful of their spending and keep their finances in check, even as the festive spirit takes over.
