Muslims across Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Saturday (March 21, 2026), following an official announcement by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad live on national television on Thursday (March 19).
The declaration was made in accordance with the command of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and with the consent of the Malay Rulers, confirming the date of the Islamic festival nationwide. Hari Raya Aidilfitri marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is one of the most significant celebrations for Muslims in the country.
Long Raya weekend from Friday March 20 to Monday March 23
In conjunction with the festive celebration, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has also announced an additional public holiday for 2026 to allow Malaysians more time to celebrate and travel during the Hari Raya period. As Eid falls on Saturday, the special holiday will fall on Friday (March 20). This special holiday is aimed at easing congestion and enabling families to reunite, especially for those returning to their hometowns.
With the extended holiday, Malaysians can expect increased travel activity across major highways and public transport hubs, as well as vibrant celebrations nationwide.
