In preparation for the 46th ASEAN Summit, police will implement phased road closures on six highways and 25 major roads in the Klang Valley from Friday, May 23 to Tuesday, May 28.

Traffic Rehearsals Begin May 21

According to Sin Chew News, Police will conduct traffic simulation exercises on Wednesday and Thursday (May 21–22) to help motorists and traffic officers familiarize themselves with the closure routes.

 In preparation for the upcoming 46th ASEAN Summit, the police will be implementing phased road closures on 6 highways and 25 major roads in the Klang Valley from this Friday (23 May) to next Tuesday (28 May).
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri stated that the closures will be carried out based on the movement of official convoys and security requirements.

Dato’ Seri Mohd Yuzi, Director of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, announced that 497 traffic officers will be deployed from across the country to assist the ASEAN Summit operations in Kuala Lumpur, bringing the total team to 789 officers, supported by 36 patrol cars and 503 motorcycles.

He emphasized the importance of strict security as Malaysia will be receiving several high-level ASEAN delegates.

What Roads Will Be Affected?

From May 23–28, expect phased closures from 8AM to 8PM, especially when dignitaries are on the move.

Example: If delegates are expected at KLCC at 9AM, road closures will begin around 8AM and only reopen after all VIPs have arrived.

Closures will affect:

  • Access roads into and out of Kuala Lumpur
  • Routes to KLIA, Subang Airport, KLCC, the National Palace, and hotels housing the VIPs

Police Warnings and Public Advice

  • Do not park on affected roads, or your vehicle may be towed immediately
  • Use alternative routes or public transport
  • Heavy vehicles are prohibited during peak hours
