abang rider melaka catch snatch thief

Six food delivery riders in Melaka earned praise and official recognition from the police after their heroic act in helping to catch a snatch thief who was pretending to be one of them.

The drama unfolded on April 23, when a 31-year-old man snatched a handbag from a 70-year-old woman at a supermarket parking lot in Bachang. Thinking he could get away on a motorbike, the suspect didn’t count on a group of real riders jumping into action. They chased him for around 12km before stopping him in Malim.

A 46-second clip of the incident went viral, showing the man—dressed in black and using a delivery bag to blend in—being cornered by the riders and later handed over to police. Authorities have reasons to believe that he’s linked to other crimes around the city and have since  remanded him for six days.

Melaka police thanked the riders for stepping in and showing real courage, adding that their actions helped rebuild public trust in the delivery community, emphasizing how powerful teamwork between citizens and police can be.
