In conjunction with the Deepavali 2025, which will be celebrated on 20 October 2025, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has officially released the additional school holidays announcement for students and teachers across the country.

This decision applies to all schools except those in Sarawak. This initiative aims to give the school community more time to celebrate this special festival with their loved ones.

The additional holidays will vary according to state groups:

  • Group A: Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will enjoy breaks on 19 October 2025 (Sunday) and 21 October 2025 (Tuesday).
  • Group B: Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Selangor, as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya will be closed on 21 October 2025 (Tuesday) and 22 October 2025 (Wednesday).
  • Sarawak, though grouped under Group B, will observe only one day of holiday on 20 October 2025 (Monday).

A time for rest and celebration

Based on the state, students and teachers will receive up to two extra days off, offering a well deserved break before classes resume.

The extended holiday provides an opportunity for families to travel, visit relatives, or simply rest at home. For the Hindu community, Deepavali, which is also known as Diwali, is a festival blends with great cultural and spiritual significance, symbolizing the light’s triumph over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

By aligning the academic calendar with major cultural celebrations, the Ministry reflects its commitment to inclusivity and to promoting a healthy balance between education and personal well-being.
