This milestone marks a significant achievement for Malaysia’s largest museum and the second largest in Southeast Asia, which has rapidly gained international acclaim since its opening in March 2022.
The five-storey museum celebrates Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage through immersive, interactive, and thematic galleries, making it a must-visit destination for both local and international visitors.
Since its launch, BCM has attracted visitors from over 150 countries, recording more than 1.35 million visitors as of mid-2025, according to data released by Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in June this year.
BCM made its debut on the Museum World Ranking platform this year, placing 305th out of 413 museums worldwide, as shared in a Facebook post by the museum on October 22.
In the same post, BCM expressed pride in being one of only three Malaysian museums featured on the global ranking – alongside the National Museum and the National Textile Museum in Kuala Lumpur – and encouraged the public to show support by casting their votes at museumworldranking.net.
