Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has officially nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, commending his “decisive leadership” in brokering the recent ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia.

“He saved lives,” Manet said, crediting Trump for preventing further bloodshed along the border.

Trump’s “Decisive Leadership” praised

The nomination was announced on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 26, following Washington’s mediation in the July 2025 Thailand–Cambodia border clash.

“On behalf of the Cambodian people, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to President Trump for his decisive leadership and steadfast commitment to support lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand,” Manet stated.

He described Trump’s involvement as “a model for peaceful conflict resolution,” saying it had “saved lives and prevented further escalation.”
Manet added that the nomination reflects Cambodia’s appreciation for Trump’s “constructive role” in fostering regional stability.

Trump Reaffirms His Image as a “Peace President”

Trump, who has long branded himself as a “peace president,” spoke during the KL Peace Accord signing ceremony on Oct. 26. He revealed that he had deployed “a lot of people” to work toward a resolution in Gaza, and expressed optimism about helping defuse tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, citing his close relationships with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief Asim Munir.

Earlier in 2025, Trump received an unsuccessful Nobel Peace Prize nomination for his alleged role in mediating the Israel–Gaza conflict, supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Previous Laureate dedicates prize to Trump

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on October 10 to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who later dedicated her win to Trump in a symbolic gesture of appreciation.

Nominations for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize remain open until January 31.
