A school canteen worker has touched hearts online after quietly making sure a student from a financially struggling family never had to go hungry at school.
Known as “Kak Zira”, the canteen operator reportedly noticed that a male student would often spend recess sitting alone at the back of the computer room instead of heading to the canteen.
Curious about why he kept avoiding the canteen, she eventually spoke to him and found out that he simply couldn’t afford to buy food. Rather than letting the student continue going hungry, Kak Zira began giving him meals for free every day.
She also reportedly told him, “If it’s not enough, come and find me.”
She even gave him money on co-op day
The story was recently shared on social media by a user who uploaded a photo of the student together with Kak Zira, drawing an emotional response from netizens.
According to Kosmo!, the student came from a financially disadvantaged family and would sometimes sit at the back of the computer room during recess because he had no money to buy food.
When the school later held a cooperative day event, Kak Zira went a step further by giving the boy some money so he could buy something he wanted and enjoy the event with his friends.
The social media post described Kak Zira as someone who does not judge students based on their family background, race or religion. Instead, she simply saw a child who deserved to eat, enjoy himself and feel cared for.

The story has since received plenty of praise online, with many netizens touched by the canteen worker’s simple but meaningful gesture.
The post also reflected on how lessons about unity and compassion do not always come from a classroom. Sometimes, they can be found in small acts of kindness from ordinary people.
Many hoped the student’s experience with Kak Zira would become a memory he carries with him for years to come.
