A 50-year-old woman was found unconscious while her daughter, who is a person with disabilities (OKU), survived after their car plunged into a lake at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) earlier today.
Operations Commander Cristian Olas said his team received an emergency call regarding the incident at 10:40 AM, and immediately dispatched six firefighters from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene.
“The accident involved a Perodua Bezza which plunged into a lake within the UNIMAS campus.
“There were two female victims in the incident. One managed to exit the vehicle safely on her own, while the other was pulled out by members of the public but was found unconscious,” he said in a statement today.
The victims were later handed over to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) for further medical attention.
He added that the operation also involved efforts to retrieve the vehicle from the lake using rescue ropes and manpower from the fire department.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
