Chen and his family dedicated helping the underprivileged

Chen’s mother revealed in an interview with Sin Chew Daily that the family regularly participates in donation and relief programs. She emphasized that Chen and his sister are always mindful of helping the underprivileged, particularly during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

She also often bakes mooncakes to donate to orphanages and nursing homes during festive seasons, sharing that compassion and kindness matters more than medals.

“We often tell our children, happiness comes from sharing. From a young age, we taught them to help whenever they see someone in need. When they grow up, if they have the ability, they should extend a helping hand to others,” she said.

For Chen’s mother, health outweighs victory

She recalled how she constantly encourages Chen, saying that whenever he loses, she reminds him to be grateful for completing the match in good health, and whenever he wins, she tells him that health matters more than victory.

“For me, health is more important than victory.” she said.
