In what many are calling a heartless stunt masked as “charity,” three local content creators are now facing serious backlash after uploading a video where they handed a homeless man a packet of leftover chicken bones.

The video, a collaborative post on Instagram starts with the trio enjoying a meal at KFC. After finishing their food, they jokingly say, “Don’t waste food. Lets donate this bone to someone in need,” before wrapping the scraps, mainly chicken bones with some rice.

They then approach a homeless man sleeping along a walkway, waking him up to give him the food. At first, he appears genuinely grateful, until he opens the wrapper and realizes it’s just bones. Despite that, he still thanks them.

Apology video arises after facing backlash

Following the distasteful video, the creators received plenty of backlash, especially from other content creators, calling out on their behaviour. To no surprise, the creator then uploaded a clarification video, sharing that their video was simply an “act”.

In his apology video, he mentioned that prior to filming, they’ve approached the homeless man, preempting him about the content that they will be producing.

“The man had agreed to cooperate with us, and we did offer him a full proper meal after filming”, he clarified.

With his apology video, here’s what netizens have to say:

Using a homeless man’s dignity as entertainment, packaging it as content, but calling “giving back to society”. If you have to edit and purposefully produce content to showcase your kindness, then the true meaning of kindness is lost. Wanting to “give back to society” shouldn’t have been an act.

How is this giving back to society when you have to embarrass them before showing them kindness. If you had even an ounce of respect for people, you wouldn’t have done this. Taking joy out of someone’s suffering is such a distasteful behaviour.

Honestly speaking, what you guys did, is not an act of kindness. It’s humiliation. They’re human too, they have dignity. You gave him bones, then only offered him a full meal, there’s no meaning to it anymore.

Since its backlash, the original video has been taken down.
