Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke stated that this restriction is a routine measure implemented during major festive seasons, when road traffic across the country increases significantly as people return home to celebrate with their families.

The ban primarily aims lorries and heavy commercial vehicles which frequently caused traffic congestion when mixed with large volume of private vehicles during peak travel days. Through this action, they hope that it will help alleviate traffic congestion on major highways and reduce the risk of road accidents.

Encourage public transportation during Raya

In addition to that, the government is also encouraging people to utilize public transport as an alternative for returning to their hometown.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) was also urged to increase trip frequency and passenger capacity during the festive season to meet higher demands.
