The case of missing insurance agent Daniel Han Lee has ended in tragedy, as authorities confirmed that he was found dead, with his body stuffed inside a suitcase and abandoned at a remote location.

The body was discovered with the throat slashed and both hands tied. Following a post-mortem and identification process, the victim was formally identified as 31-year-old Daniel Han Lee, who had been reported missing since 7 October.

The family was notified by police on the evening of 9 October and later assisted in the identification process at Seberang Jaya Hospital. As the post-mortem continued late into the night, identification was completed the next morning.

Daniel’s father confirmed the body was his son but declined to speak to the media. Several colleagues were seen offering support outside the mortuary.

Disappearance after alleged trip to Perlis

Daniel Han Lee, an insurance agent and financial content creator based in Penang, was last heard from in the early hours of Tuesday, 7 October.

According to initial reports, Daniel last communicated with his mother around 1am on Tuesday, informing her that he was travelling to Perlis for work purposes and might return late or the following day

However, doubts have emerged regarding the authenticity of that message. According to China Press, Daniel’s family suspects that it may not have been sent by him, as he became unreachable from noon on the same day. His mobile phone has been switched off, and attempts to contact him via family and work messaging groups have been unsuccessful.

Search for missing agent

A check revealed that Daniel’s last public activity on Facebook occurred on afternoon of Monday, 6 October, when he shared a motivational post. Well known within his professional circle as a financial influencer, he often posted videos related to financial planning and guidance.

Colleagues stated that Daniel had been scheduled to meet a new coworker on the evening of his disappearance but failed to attend the meeting. Despite numerous attempts, no one has been able to reach him. At the time he went missing, he was reportedly dressed in a grey shirt and black pants. He was believed to be driving a Toyota Vios (registration number PPP 3135).

Discovery of body and ongoing investigation

The case was reported after a cleaner found a suspicious suitcase in a wooded area near Ampang Re Re flats in Butterworth. The body was examined at Seberang Jaya Hospital mortuary. Police have not released further details.
