Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has just bagged two major titles in the 2025 Megahubs Index by aviation data provider OAG as the World’s No.1 Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) airport and Asia’s No.1 International Megahub.

KLIA becomes Asia’s no. 1 international megahub

To no surprise, AirAsia was credited as the driving force behind KLIA’s global lead. With its huge regional and long-haul network, the budget airline makes KLIA one of the busiest and most connected low-cost hubs in the world.

OAG’s Megahubs Index looks at how well-connected airports are by tracking how many destinations passengers can reach through scheduled connections within six hours. It also highlights each airport’s dominant airline and how much of the traffic they handle.

KLIA outperformed heavyweights like Singapore Changi and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to secure the top spot in Asia. It also ranked among the Top 10 global megahubs, with South Korea’s Incheon International Airport coming in at sixth place.

Connectivity at KLIA jumped by 22% compared to last year, cementing Malaysia’s spot on the global aviation map.

Celebrating the win on Facebook, KLIA wrote:

“KLIA takes the lead! Connectivity surged 22%, and KLIA retains its title as the world’s No.1 low-cost carrier megahub. As the top-ranked Asian airport in the global Top 10, KLIA leads with unmatched reliability and reach.”

Looks like KLIA is soaring higher than ever, both literally and globally.
