A memorable Upin & Ipin appearance by the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali has resurfaced online, giving Malaysians another chance to see the former prime minister’s wife in an unexpected animated role.
The clip was shared by Les’ Copaque Production, the studio behind the popular Malaysian animated series, following Dr Siti Hasmah’s passing at the age of 100 on September 28.
The scene comes from the Season 6 special “Terima Kasih Cikgu!”, a three-part episode released in 2018. Dr Siti Hasmah and her husband, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, both appeared as animated versions of themselves.
A special message for Upin, Ipin and their friends
In the scene, Dr Siti Hasmah speaks to Upin, Ipin and their schoolmates, sharing advice about working hard to achieve their dreams while remembering the sacrifices made by their parents and teachers.
Les’ Copaque accompanied the resurfaced clip with a tribute to the late doctor, thanking her for the advice and guidance she shared with the characters. The studio also said the memories of having Dr Siti Hasmah involved in the series would remain in their hearts.
The cameo has since prompted emotional reactions from fans, with many revisiting the episode and remembering her appearance in the beloved series.
A pioneering doctor beyond her role as former PM’s Wife
Dr Siti Hasmah passed away at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur on September 28, aged 100. Her death was confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.
Born in Klang, Selangor, in 1926, she was among the earliest Malay women to pursue medicine and later became a prominent public health advocate.
Her career included work in maternal and child healthcare, as well as various health and community initiatives. She was also married to Tun Dr Mahathir for 70 years and had seven children.
She was laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Putrajaya on September 28, following a state funeral.
