An elderly Chinese man seen walking home alone after buying groceries recently touched the hearts of many after a Malay man stopped to give him a ride home in Johor Bahru.

The wholesome interaction reportedly took place in Taman Nusa Bestari, Johor Bahru. In a Threads post, the driver, Khairul, shared that he was passing by when he noticed an elderly man with white hair standing by the roadside. The uncle was wearing a face mask, holding an umbrella, and carrying a blue groceries bag on his wrist.
A simple gesture that touched hearts
Feeling concerned, Khairul stopped his car and asked where the elderly man was heading. After learning that the uncle was on his way back to Taman Nusa Bestari, which happened to be along his route so he offered him a ride home.
During their conversation in the car, the elderly man shared that he had just gone grocery shopping and had earlier been dropped off by a friend. He also mentioned that his children were working out of town, while his wife had mobility issues and could not leave the house easily.
The uncle was reportedly touched after learning that Khairul had turned back specifically because he saw him trying to seek help by the roadside. Besides thanking him repeatedly, the elderly man also gave Khairul a thumbs up as a sign of appreciation.
Refused to leave him at the entrance
Guided by the uncle, Khairul eventually arrived at his home. Although the elderly man insisted that he could be dropped off at the entrance and walk the rest of the way, Khairul chose to send him directly to his doorstep instead.
In the video, Khairul appeared surprised after seeing that the uncle lived in a large house. However, he later reminded netizens not to judge people based on appearances alone.
He also encouraged Malaysians to continue helping one another regardless of race.
“No matter who they are or what race they come from, we should always help each other,” he wrote.
The heartwarming clip quickly gained traction online, with many netizens praising Khairul for his kindness. Some even joked that the elderly man could be a wealthy individual living a humble and low-profile life.
