According to the Ministry of Education’s 2026 academic calendar, all state and federal schools in Malaysia will enjoy a 9-day break during the Chinese New Year holidays next year.

In 2026, the Chinese New Year falls on February 17 (Tuesday) and February 18 (Wednesday). In addition to these two public holidays, the ministry will also grant three additional school holidays.

Students to enjoy 9 days break during CNY in 2026

According to Sin Chew Daily, the states are separated into 2 groups:

Group A:

  • Kelantan
  • Kedah
  • Terengganu

Group B:

  • Johor
  • Kuala Lumpur
  • Labuan
  • Melaka
  • Negeri Sembilan
  • Pahang
  • Perak
  • Perlis
  • Penang
  • Putrajaya
  • Sabah
  • Sarawak
  • Selangor

For Group A schools, the three extra holidays will fall on:

  • February 15, 2026 (Sunday)
  • February 16, 2026 (Monday)
  • February 19, 2026 (Thursday)

Combined with the weekend breaks on Friday and Saturday, students will enjoy a total of nine consecutive days off.

whereas for for Group B schools, the additional holidays will fall on:

  • February 16, 2026 (Monday)
  • February 19, 2026 (Thursday)
  • February 20, 2026 (Friday)

Including the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, they will also have nine consecutive days of holidays.
