As prices may see a climb due to global supply disruptions, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has introduced a number of initiatives aimed at alleviating pressure faced by Malaysians, especially small traders, farmers, and low-income groups.

According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the initiatives include reducing commercial rental rates in government-owned premises, providing advance subsidies under the Special Ploughing Incentive for paddy farmers, and expanding the Jualan Rahmah Madani, the affordable food programme.

Rental relief for small traders

1. The government will lower rental rates at federal government-owned commercial premises starting this month. Announcements across districts will be made soon.

2. This includes shop premises that are owned by government-linked entities or agencies such as MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) and UDA (Urban Development Authority).

3. The move is aimed at helping small traders, hawkers, and food operators cope with rising costs.

4. Other parties such as state governments and local councils have been called to implement similar reductions.

5. Starting this month, rental cuts will be rolled out nationwide, with details announced by district.

RM200 per hectare aid for paddy farmers

1.  Paddy farmers will receive an advance of RM200 per hectare under the Ploughing Incentive Special Aid.

2. The measure will cost the government RM48 million and is expected to benefit some 240,000 registered paddy farmers nationwide.

3. This helps farmers cover early costs like machinery and planting, especially as fuel and input prices rise.

Jualan Rahmah Madani programme, up to 30% cheaper goods

1.  The Madani Rahmah Sales Programme be further expanded in all states on a weekly basis as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the cost of living.

  • Expand to 30,000 Jualan Rahmah events
  • Held weekly and across urban and selected rural areas
  • Offers essential goods at up to 30% below market price

2. Fixed days and schedules will be introduced so buyers can easily plan when and where to shop.

3. The programme aims to provide opportunities for small traders to sell their goods at more affordable prices.

Anwar acknowledged that the measures would not fully resolve current challenges, but said they are intended to provide immediate relief to the public.

He added that the government will continue to review and introduce new initiatives on a weekly basis, including during Cabinet meetings every Wednesday, to further reduce the burden on Malaysians.
