The incident once again highlights concerns about the dangers of “basikal lajak“, especially when used without supervision or adherence to traffic rules. Authorities further stated the case is being investigated under Section 54(1) if the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged the parents and guardians to ensure children do not ride modified bicycles on public roads.

“Parents, please watch over your children. If anything happens, it will be a long story,” they said.

Public reaction

Online viewers have shared mixed responses to the video. with many expressing concern over the recurring issue of unsafe cycling practices.

“If anything happens and people start blaming the parents, there will be those who say, “They just lost their child, yet netizens are blaming them. They didn’t want this to happen either.” But before anything happens, look at how their kids are playing, no supervision, no discipline, behaving like little monkeys. Even mother monkeys control their young.”

“Just arrest the parents and lock them up for a night, then they’ll finally learn to monitor their children’s behaviour.”

“Imagine if a trailer or lorry passed by. Your body would be crushed.”
