The incident was shared by a Threads user, @njlaimn, who said the family were travelling from Pisa to Milan when they decided to take a short break to eat. However, when they returned to their vehicle, they discovered that their luggage had been stolen.

The family later managed to track their missing iPad using its location feature, with its signal reportedly leading them to an area believed by the family to be a Gypsy camp. The post’s author also expressed concern for the family’s safety and dissatisfaction with how the local police handled the incident.

Netizens warn tourists against leaving luggage in cars

The incident prompted other social media users to share similar experiences and warn travellers to be extra cautious when driving around Europe.

One commenter said they frequently rented cars overseas and advised tourists to head directly to their accommodation after arriving, rather than making stops while their luggage was still inside the vehicle.

Another warned against leaving expensive branded luggage, such as Rimowa suitcases, inside cars in public areas, saying they could attract thieves.

Some also suggested dropping off luggage at the hotel before heading out to explore.
