A Malaysian car owner recently shared his experience after purchasing a brand-new car, Proton Saga MC3 and taking it out for a drive. During normal highway conditions, he encountered unexpected technical issues involving the vehicle’s infotainment and signal systems, prompting questions about system stability in newly delivered local vehicles.

The vehicle’s infotainment system reportedly disconnected without warning and turned completely blank. The screen became unresponsive, preventing any interaction of control. Despite supporting features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the connection appeared unstable, resulting in a prolonged system blackout lasting several minutes.

“The connection isn’t stable, and it was blank for such a long time, which is probably close to 10 minutes,” he said.
Signal function and safety concerns
While the infotainment system remained inactive, the turn signal indicators also failed to operate properly. There was no audible feedback, leaving the driver uncertain whether the external lights were functioning. The incident raised safety concerns, particularly as it occurred while the vehicle was in motion.

After a while, the infotainment system including the speedometer suddenly shut down and restarted automatically. Although the recovery brought relief, the temporary loss of controls left a strong impression, highlighting potential risks even in brand-new electric vehicles.
“Luckily I’m relieved. I was really scared,” he stated.
Public reaction
Following the release of the video, the incident quickly drew attention online, with many viewers sharing their thoughts and reactions.
“Proton’s tech is advanced… if a journey is long, the display auto-off and on again to “refresh” the driver.”

“My Mazda sometimes gets stuck too, and I have to reset it myself.”

“I once bought a Saga after claims it was Honda-level, but the head unit restarted every 30–40 mins. Sound would spike each time, and the service center couldn’t fix it. I ended up selling it after 6 months.”
