Recently, a social media user in Pantai Remis (Perak), Malaysia, made headlines not for themselves, but for their pet hamster. They wrote a full-on obituary for the tiny animal and posted it on Facebook.
11-year-old ‘Yang Xiu Ying’, the hamster who stole the spotlight

The hamster, named ‘Yang Xiu Ying’, lived a full life of 11 and a half years. On March 26 5pm, this tiny furball peacefully passed away at home.
The owner, though sad, was also thoughtful enough not to just mourn the loss of Yang Xiu Ying on social media. Instead, they wrote an obituary for the tiny animal, giving it fully respect and VIP status.
The announcement was sincere and touching, and surprisingly serious, portraying the hamster’s life as meaningful and charming.
Based on the obituary, the funeral was held on March 30 at 7:30pm, followed by transfer to the crematorium for cremation.
Netizens reaction online
The post quickly went viral, with netizens jokingly asking if condolence money was needed and whether the owner would be in mourning attire.

This story reminds us that pets are never ‘just pets.’ They become part of our family, part of our everyday life. They give us unconditional love. And when they’re gone, the pain is as real as if we’ve suffered the loss of someone we love.
