A single father of three is seeking public support after a road accident left him with serious head injuries and unable to care for himself or return to work.

Pan Wen Kang’s (transliterated) family is hoping to raise RM60,000 to cover his medical treatment, rehabilitation and living expenses over the next year. According to MCA Kampar division chairman Hu Wei Hao (transliterated), the family reached out for help after Wen Kang’s condition left them struggling financially. Wen Kang had previously worked in Singapore but later moved to Johor Bahru to work at a mixed rice stall, hoping to avoid the exhausting daily commute between Johor and Singapore.
However, just two days into his new job, he was involved in an accident on 15 September while riding his motorcycle back to work after his lunch break. He was reportedly hit by a car that was reversing. The driver did not have a valid driving licence, while the car had neither road tax nor insurance, leaving Wen Kang unable to seek compensation through the vehicle’s insurance.
Unable to eat and requires long-term care
Wen Kang suffered serious head injuries and underwent surgery. He was discharged from hospital on 3 October and returned to Ipoh, before being admitted to a care centre in Pusing, Perak, on 5 October for rehabilitation.

Although he can still move his arms and legs, he is currently unable to eat and relies on milk for nutrition. His medical treatment, nursing care and daily expenses have also placed a heavy financial burden on the family. The situation is made more difficult by the number of family members who depend on him. Wen Kang is a single father raising three children aged 8, 11 and 12, who are studying at SJK(C) Chang Jung in Tronoh. He also has to support his elderly parents, aged 71 and 65. His father suffers from asthma, while his mother requires dialysis three times a week.
Although Wen Kang has siblings, they have their own families to support and are unable to provide long-term financial assistance. Doctors estimate that he will need around a year to recover. He is scheduled for follow-up treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh on 3 November. Hu said he would also assist the family in applying for financial aid through the Social Welfare Department.
Legal assistance to pursue compensation
Meanwhile, MCA Youth Kampar division chief Tan Wen Qiang said the Johor MCA Youth chapter would provide legal assistance to help Wen Kang take civil action against the driver. The legal support aims to help him seek compensation and pursue his rights following the accident.
Members of the public who wish to help Wen Kang and his family can consider contributing towards the RM60,000 fundraising target.
