A 15-year-old boy walked away with an astonishing RM500,000 after emerging champion at a fishing competition held at DEN Kolam Pancing Kuala Selangor on Sunday.

The teenager, identified as Haikal from Shah Alam, secured the grand prize after catching a fish weighing 2.15kg, the closest to the competition’s target weight of 2.2kg.

Interestingly, Haikal had not gone there with hopes of winning big. According to reports, he had simply accompanied his father to the fishing pond, unaware that the day would end with him taking home half a million ringgit.

When approached about how he intended to use the prize money, the soft-spoken teen gave a heartfelt response.

“I want to give the RM500,000 to my mum and dad,” he said briefly.

When asked about his bait, Haikal revealed that he used ulat roti, commonly known as bread worms, as bait during the competition.

The event featured several lucrative prizes. The second-place winner received RM40,000, while the third-place winner took home RM20,000.

Haikal’s victory, along with his decision to hand the prize money to his parents, has since garnered widespread praise online, with many netizens commending his humility and strong sense of filial devotion.
