Penang has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the only state in Malaysia with a per capita income exceeding the national average.

According to the post shared by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yew on Facebook, he attended the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
During the session, discussions revealed that the per capita income of NCER states has shown a steady growth trend from 2021 to 2024.
According to the official statistics, Penang’s per capita income reached RM76,033 in 2024, which significantly exceeded the national average of RM56,734. This achievement highlights the state’s consistent economic performance and its leading role within the region.

Commitment to sustainable development
“Penang has always positioned itself as a key contributor to the country’s economy, not only through its industrial sector but also through advancement in professional skills and human resource development,” Chow Kon Yew said.
He also expressed the state government’s intention to maintain a close cooperation with the federal government, aiming to fulfill the needs of people and upload Penang’s reputation as one of the Malaysia’s most progressive states.
